Een van mijn oud collega's, Marianne van Wanrooij heeft de innovatieprijs gewonnen op de NOT. HIeronder een korte beschrijving over het project:
Met bijzonder veel genoegen, laten we u weten dat op 27 januari bekend is geworden dat Meles Meles SMD de winnaar is van de NOT Innovatieprijs 2009 in de categorie ‘Innovatieve toepassing van facilitaire producten, inrichting of diensten ten behoeve van het onderwijs’. Meles Meles sleepte de prijs in de wacht met het innovatieve concept en product FacTotem 2.0. De NOT Innovatieprijs werd uitgereikt door Staatssecretaris Marja van Bijsterveld en cabaretier Viggo Waas tijdens de officiële opening van de NOT 2009 in de Jaarbeurs in Utrecht. FacTotem 2.0 is een geïntegreerd concept voor de mediatheek in het onderwijs, met als doel deze om te vormen tot het kenniscentrum van de school. Uitgangspunten hierbij zijn: het verbeteren van de leerprestaties van kinderen en jongeren en het gebruik van web 2.0 applicaties. De fysieke mediatheek met alle voorzieningen, werkplekken, boeken, tijdschriften, leeslounges wordt naadloos gekoppeld aan een virtuele toegangspoort naar informatie en applicaties waarmee leerlingen zowel op school als thuis 24/7 kunnen leren, werken maar ook spelen, ontdekken, uitvinden en creëren. Bijzonder is vooral de zgn. virtuele akela, een tool die de leerling helpt zijn pad te vinden in het enorme informatie aanbod. FacTotem 2.0 is tot stand gekomen door intensieve samenwerking met interieur- en productontwerper Maarten Olden van MO, O en software ontwikkelaar Marianne van Wanrooij van Connected Solutions.
Hier kan je ook een video vinden van een presentatie. Binnenkort zal er een online demo komen. Zodra die er is zal ik het laten weten.
Daarnaast is er zelfs ook al een stukje documentatie aanwezig. Pagina 6-7 wordt het stukje Silverlight uitgelegd.
Volgende dinsdag is het weer zover, de jaarlijkse GEPS (Global Education Partner Summit). Op dit evenement worden alle MS partners op te hoogte gebracht van de jaarplannen van onderwijs bij Microsoft.
Ik vlieg zelf op zondag, dus misschien zie je me wel in het vliegtuig :) Als je nog andere informatie nodig hebt die je niet op de GEPS verwacht kan ik eventueel maandag afspreken met partners om hun van informatie te voorzien. Als je iets wilt afspreken mail me dan even op:

Er staan daar een aantal voorbeelden genoemd, misschien kan je deze informatie gebruiken om bepaalde beslissingen te forceren...

University adds services to save $70,000 over three years
Fewer than 20 percent of Eastern students used the university’s
existing hosted e-mail service. They wanted a more familiar user
interface, increased functionality, and the ability to choose their
user names.
In the first two years, more than 6,500 accounts have been activated,
totaling 65 percent of the campus population. By retiring the previous
service, the university estimates it will save $70,000 over three years.

Afgelopen vrijdag was ik een dagje op de BETT in London. Ik mag daar als gelukkige op de Microsoft stand staan. Naast de gebruikelijke demo's op de stand, was de Microsoft Surface de grootste trekker. Een aantal partner (zoals RM) hebben applicaties ontwikkeld voor het onderwijs speciaal voor de surface. Ik hoorde ook dat er partners in NL bezig zijn met deze oplossing, als je iets weet laat het mij dan even weten, dan kan ik het bekend maken op mijn blog.
Ik heb helaas niet lang over de beurs kunnen lopen, maar de volgende dingen vielen mij op:
- Heel veel netbooks; het kan ook niet anders de opkomst van de Netbook in de UK is enorm. Ik heb geen idee wanneer het nu de beste tijd is om in te stappen, want ik heb gevoel dat elke dag nieuwe versies uitkomen
- Synetrix - hebben binnen SharePoint een silverlight VLE gemaakt. Op hun website komt binnenkort meer informatie.
- Surface; een aantal surfaces op de BETT show waar onderwijsapplicaties op getoond worden
Heb je nog meer leuke dingen die je op de BETT hebt gezien, laat het me dan even weten.
Op technet is er een leuke video gekomen van Jim Lucy die uitlegd wat de nieuwe functies zijn binnen Exchange 14. Het mooie voor Edu klanten is dat Exchange 14 gebruikt zal gaan worden voor
Exchangelabs en dus voor Live@EDU
Jim talked in depth about Exchange Labs and how we use that to do large scalability testing of Exchange - we currently host 3.5 Million mailboxes on Exchange Labs.
Jim also gives a brief demo of the user experience, showing how you have access to your mail and calendar via Outlook, the browser, or your mobile phone.
This video is the first in a series covering what's new in Exchange 14, check back over the comings months to see what else is new in the product.

Op Tweakers.NET stond er een leuk artikel over een aantal nieuwe producten die Microsoft presenteert op de CES 2009:
Microsoft heeft op de CES 2009-beurs een concept getoond waarbij e-paper in combinatie met een computer of mobiele telefoon wordt gebruikt.
Volgens Microsoft kan de combinatie onder meer binnen het onderwijs goede diensten bewijzen.
Het gebruik van e-paper kwam naar voren bij een demonstratie van een mogelijk toekomstige educatieve applicatie.
Hierbij werd op een tablet-pc een anatomisch model van het menselijk lichaam getoond. Via een nieuwe menu-interface
werden verschillende lagen van de anatomie zichtbaar gemaakt en liet Microsoft zien hoe een applicatie
op het anatomisch model kon worden losgelaten die processen in de hersenen visualiseert.
