Onderwijsorganisaties maken in toenemende mate gebruik van SharePoint in het Onderwijs. En of dat nu is in het primaire proces van lesgeven of in het secundaire proces van de schoolorganisatie, SharePoint in het Onderwijs draagt bij aan een effectieve en efficiënte ICT implementatie. Een informatie en communicatie portaal op basis van SharePoint 2007 stelt besturen in staat om zowel binnen de eigen organisatie als tussen scholen onderling samenwerking te faciliteren.
Diverse scenario's zijn denkbaar om SharePoint in het Onderwijs te implementeren. Daarbij staan regie en samenhang centraal. Als onderwijsorganisatie wil je niet volledig afhankelijk zijn van leveranciers en is het voeren van de juiste regie van groot belang. Om die juiste regie te voeren is kennis noodzakelijk. Professionalisering daar waar het gaat om SharePoint in het Onderwijs zorgt ervoor dat de regie op de juiste wijze gevoerd kan worden vanuit een in de organisatie aanwezig deskundigheid.

Goed nieuws voor de gebruikers van Office Live Workspace in Live@EDU. De program manager heeft een post geschreven over de nieuwe functionaliteiten die eraan komen:

My name is Skip Chilcott and I started working on Office Live Workspace a few months ago. I’m really excited about the progress we’ve made this year–we’ve reached more than three million subscribers and we’re growing fast!
Part of having so many customers is getting a lot of feedback, which is great. And now, thanks to all that feedback, we’ve just made some improvements to the service that I am really pleased to share with you:
· Folders –To simplify organization, now you can use folders to manage files within workspaces. We know many of you were creating new workspaces whenever you needed to group related documents, so we’re really happy about this feature.
· Cut/Copy/Paste–Want to copy a document or file to another workspace? We’ve replaced the File/Move feature with Cut/Copy/Paste to make it even easier to manage your files.
· More storage–We are increasing your storage capacity to 5GB. You keep telling us you need more so… ask no more!
· Eight new languages – We are expanding to Eastern Europe with the addition of Hungarian, Romanian, Lithuanian, Serbian Latin, Ukrainian, Slovak, Latvian, and Slovenian. That brings our total to 28 languages in 52 countries! Be sure to tell your friends, family, and colleagues around the globe to check out Office Live Workspace.
The new Folders and Cut/Copy/Paste features are available right now for you to try out. And, we’ll be rolling out the increased storage capacity to all customers over the course of the next several days.

Denk echt goed nieuws. Vooral het maken van mapjes was erg belangrijk voor het onderwijs. Het vergroten van de storage is weer helemaal super. We hebben nu:
Outlook live per gebruiker: 10GB
Skydrive per gebruiker: 25GB
OLW: 5GB

In deze post wil graag mijn ervaringen delen met de verbeteringen met Outlook Live (Onderdeel van Live@EDU). In deze blogpost ga ik de volgende onderdelen behandelen:
- Navigatie
- Communicatie
- Meerdere mailboxen openen
Navigatie:
De grootste verandering heeft plaatsgevonden in de look and feel van de omgeving. Naast dat de omgeving niet alleen meer voor IE bedoeld is, maar ook ondersteund wordt door FireFox en Safari (volledig), zijn er ook veranderingen in de view van berichten. Stel voor; als gebruiker verstuur je een bericht naar 10 mensen. Deze 10 mensen reageren op jouw e-mail. Normaal gesproken zou je deze e-mail berichten ontvangen (gedurende de dag) en raak je eigenlijk het overzicht kwijt waar welk bericht bij hoort. In deze nieuwe versie (kan je zelf voor kiezen) een zogenaamde berichten view activeren. Hiermee worden alle berichten verzameld bij 1 bericht. Je ziet ook direct de flow in het bericht, deze persoon heeft hier op gereageerd, en daarop weer de andere. Je krijgt gewoon netjes een boomstructuur.
Bovenin kan je navigeren naar de andere diensten van Live@EDU, zoals het profiel en je skydrive.
Communicatie:
Nieuwe in deze versie is dat messenger geintegreerd is in het platform. Je ziet het al aan de grote groene knop rechtsbovenin, maar aan de linkerkant zie je ook je Contactenlijst. Dit is eigenlijk een soort Online Messenger. In deze lijst zie je bijv. dat Toni Bataraga online is en door erop te klikken kan ik direct met hem chatten:
Deze chat komt gewoon binnen in je browser. Je kan dus zelfs zonder messenger af (natuurlijk geen video,geluid etc ondersteuning)
Meerdere mailboxen openen
Een groot probleem momenteel is dat studenten heel veel mailboxen hebben, ze hebben bij hotmail een mailbox, bij gmail etc etc. Daarnaast krijgen ze dan van de school uit nog een mailbox. Meestal wordt dit teveel voor een student om maar overal in te kijken. In deze nieuwe release is het mogelijk om andere mailboxen in dit scherm te openen. Je e-mail van gmail wordt dan geopend in het Outlook Live scherm en vanuit Outlook Live kan je dan ook weer als gmail e-mailen:
Absoluut een goede zaak, zo kan een student 1 mailbox bekijken, maar daarin ziet hij direct al zijn e-mails uit de andere mailboxen die hij heeft. HIerdoor kan de acceptatie van schoolmail veel eenvoudiger worden.
Toen ik vanochtend inlogde kreeg ik het mooiste moment van de dag :), mijn mailbox van Live@EDU is geupgrade naar Exchange 14 / Outlook Live. Gedurende de dag heb ik er mee gewerkt en ik ben er echt super blij mee. Vooral binnen onderwijs wordt er veel gewerkt met firefox. Met de huidige (exchange labs) kreeg je de lite
editie van Outlook Web Access, met de nieuwe versie krijg je een zelfde experience als met Internet Explorer. Zie hieronder mijn mailbox (geopend in FireFox). Je ziet direct de geintegreerde messenger aan de linkerzijde.
Ik zal de komende weken nog wat posting maken over de verbeteringen.
Momenteel en aankomende week worden de Live@EDU klanten geupgrade van Exchange labs naar een nieuwe versie van Exchange, genaamd Outlook Live. Deze outlook live is gebaseerd op Exchange 14, het nieuwe e-mail platform van Microsoft.

Persoonlijk vind ik dit mijn top 3 verbeteringen:
- Volledig support voor Safari, FireFox en IE
- Conversvation view (je krijgt een mooi overzicht per onderwerp) (zie video voor beelden)
- Communicatie (MSN functionaliteit) is geintegreerd in de webinterface

Exchange Labs is undergoing an exciting transformation as we upgrade to the latest service release of the offering; R3. As part of this upgrade, we are also be taking the opportunity to announce our final release branding of the service; it will now be known as Microsoft Outlook Live®. The URL that end users will use to access the service will also change to http://outlook.com/, however http://exchangelabs.com will continue to work until further notice to assist with transitions.
I wanted to take this opportunity to bring readers up to speed on some of the things you should be aware of to assist your planning and support. If you have any queries, don’t forget that you have some great resources available to you: your Microsoft account team, our recently refreshed Live@edu support services and our new wealth of online help. I of course have been awaiting this moment, as I will have a load of podcasts to do now :).
The Exchange team have even released a bit of a Bob Dylan inspired video on this… worth a watch.
For your convenience, I thought it would be a good idea to lay out some of the more significant changes you will see here. The upgrade of the service to what we are calling Release 3 (R3) will commence on Feb 13th 2009, and will continue until the end of May 2009 at the latest. During this time period, a rising number of your existing end users will see the Exchange UI and some features change to reflect our new branding, new users will go straight onto the new release. As an IT Admin, you will also witness the introduction of some new tools and deployment options.
This is not an exhaustive list, please refer to our new online help website for full details.
New End-User features and functionality:
1. Support for Safari and Firefox browsers - Users enjoy the great functionality they get in Outlook Live with Internet Explorer but sometimes want the flexibility to use other web browsers. Outlook Live Premium support will be available for IE 7+ as well as Firefox 3+ and Safari 3+ (MAC only).
2. Instant Messaging and Presence - Outlook Live now contains instant messaging integrated into the client, connected to the Live Messenger Service (hosted). Using the colorful status indicator of another person, users can quickly decide if they should send an e-mail or just fire off a quick IM to get a fast response.
3. Conversation View - Allows users to group conversation so that they can view messages in context and narrow the number of messages in their inbox that they must pay attention to.
4. Live Header - Addition of the Microsoft Live header bar across the top of the Outlook Live web experience.
5. New online help – A wealth of information related to the end user features and functionality
New Administrator features and functionality:
1. New Exchange Control Panel functionality – Administrators will get extended management capabilities and be able to manage contacts, see performance metrics and more.
2. New Monitoring features (6 weeks after the upgrade of R3 starts) that allows administrators to search for keywords across mailboxes and track delivery reports for end-user mail.
3. New Identity Lifecycle Manager Management Agent - Provides identity synchronization, certificate and password management, and user provisioning in a single solution that works across Microsoft Windows and other organization systems. In this release, we are not making Exchange Labs Management Agent v3 broadly available at this time.
4. Segmented Address Book - Provides administrators with the ability to hide individual users from the Global Address Book (GAL), or the entire organization. This feature provides a level of privacy for end-users who wish to remain hidden.
5. PowerShell v2.0 CTP3 is required - In the current beta release of Outlook Live R2, administrators can use Windows PowerShell v2 and connect to an Exchange server remotely to perform some management tasks in their organization. This requires downloading and installing Windows PowerShell v2 CTP2 and the WinRM 2.0 CTP2, from the connect site. Instructions here. With the release of Outlook Live R3, administrators will need to download and install the updated Windows PowerShell v2 CTP3 and WinRM 2.0 CTP3, by March 16. Instructions here. This new version has some changes to the syntax used, so review the technical documentation for instructions. The new version can only be used after the domain has started to be upgraded. Administrators can see if they are on R3 by logging into Outlook Live with the first/primary admin account and seeing the Outlook Live branding, instead of Exchange Labs
6. New Branding – After the upgrade, the way that branding in R3 is implemented will change. Customers that have implemented R2 branding can leave their look and feel intact if they like. From Feb 26th, R3 branding options will become available. New domains that are deployed after the R3 upgrade starts, and customers that have not applied the R2 branding will only have R3 branding as a choice.
