Starting today, you don’t have to download any software to your PC to enjoy what Microsoft Research’s WorldWide Telescope has to offer – it’s now available online as a web application! This is good news for folks running non-Windows operating systems who were previously unable to use this amazing tool which lets your computer function as a virtual telescope while bringing together imagery from the best ground and space-based telescopes in the world.
The new WWT web application (alpha) uses Silverlight 2.0 to display the satellite imagery within your browser and it offers most of the features of the desktop application, including the following:
- Access to hundreds of terabytes of sky, earth and planet data
- Ability to navigate seamlessly through 3D spherical environments
- Finder Scope to quickly identify astronomical objects
- Instant thumbnail previews of tens of thousands of popular astronomical objects
- Access to billions of objects in web-based astronomical catalogue
- Loading tours, images and other WorldWide Telescope data files on local machine
- Real-time positions of planets and moons
- Move forwards and backwards in time 2000 years
- View guided tours (without 3D planets)
- Browsing local user collections
- Virtual Observatory Cone search/registry look up and SIMBAD search
What Can You Do With Podcasting Kit for SharePoint (PKS)?:
- Listen and watch audio/video podcasts, anywhere on your PC or mobile device (Zune, SmartPhone, or any podcasting device)
- Share content by producing your own audio/video podcasts and publish them on PKS on your own.
- Connect and engage with podcasters via your integrated instant messaging program
- Find the most relevant content using the five star rating system, tag cloud, search engine and provide your feedback via comments.
- Get automatic podcast updates by subscribing to RSS feeds fully compatible with Zune and other podcasting devices
- Simple RSS feed based on a defined podcast series
- Simple RSS feed based on a person
- Dynamic RSS feed based on search results (will be implemented later in 2009)
- Play podcasts in real-time using Microsoft® Silverlight™ and progressive playback
- Retrieve instant ROI and metrics with the ability to track the number of podcasts downloaded and/or viewed, instant feedback via rating system and comments, and subscribers via the RSS feed
- Access the richness of SharePoint to extend the solution: workflows, community sub-sites, access rights, editorial and more
Welcome to the world’s only community site for people who are smart enough to love OneNote. I won’t lie to you, but OneNote, for the uninitiated (of which there are far too many as far as I am concerned, that’s why I created this site even though I am simply a fictional character and not actually real), is actually a Microsoft product of insane greatness – its part of the Office Suite. I use it all day, every day to stay half-way sane and, at times, look good in this wacked out place I where I do what is sometimes called work. The 20 second pitch is that OneNote is a personal productivity tool that lets you capture ideas (could be your own brilliant thoughts, stuff you want to keep from the web, meeting notes etc) and organize them in an electronic 3-ringed binder. It’s like nothing you have ever used before, I guarantee. Anyway, enough about that, visit the official OneNote page to get the full scoop
PowerShell Assistant (PSA) is a tool to help Universities and Schools to deploy Microsoft Live@edu.
Features:
-Algorithms to generate unique username & pw
-Outlook Live ID provisioning
-Active Directory import/export
-WLID credential card printing
-Send SMTP email
and more...
- You can get your end user population to do it manually - we provide guidance on this here. You can use this to migrate mail/calendar/contacts/tasks. If you are currently running Exchange for your students, you can partially complete this task for your users by extracting pst files using a tool like ExMerge.
- You can turn on the POP protocol on you legacy email system, and then have your users connect to it from within their Exchange Labs OWA session using Email Subscriptions in a browser that supports the full OWA experience, and then they can simply click and drag their mail from the old service to the new. This will work for mail only - other things like calendar/contacts/tasks cannot be accessed over the POP protocol.
- Wait until we release R3 (starting Feb 2009) and you can use POP Email Subscriptions and PowerShell to do the migration.
- You can use a 3rd party tool that supports secure POP/IMAP migrations...more below...again this will only work for mail migration only.
We have turned on the POP and IMAP protocols on Exchange Labs, and in an examination of how this might help with administrator-driven mail migrations, I have been working recently with one vendor of POP/IMAP migration software - Dataenter from Austria, and I have been looking at their POPBeamer product. I set them up with an Exchange Labs account on my test domain…….
