Nieuwe versie World Wide Telescope – geintegreerd in bing

Vandaag is er een nieuwe versie gelanceerd van de Microsoft World Wide Telescope. Een van de nieuwe features bij de update is dat het geintegreerd is in bing maps!. Zie hieronder een voorbeeld hoe je in dit geval door de Microsoft campus loopt en naaboven kijkt waar je ook direct de sterren ziet.

The WorldWide Telescope application allows you to view most of the features available in the Silverlight client right in Bing Maps. Yes, the WWT provides real time information about how the space is moving over the Earth. This provides context for where celestial entities are in real time if you were to look up at the night sky. Upon launching the WWT Bing Maps App, you may get so excited and just want to see SOMETHING, so just jump right in with stars. You can click the “Start Here” button which enables a telescope mouse pointer which you drag somewhere onto the map. Once you drop it on the map the map will fade to the constellations and stars overhead. You can navigate the universe the same way you do Bing Maps by grabbing an area and dragging the map around (now a universe map). Cool! But, now what. Click the question mark icon near the bottom of the map. This enables a control that you can drag over specific entities on the universe map to identify what they are. You can discover known objects in space…the final frontier. To turn off the information view, just click the question mark icon again.

Now, if you want the SUPER COOL effect you saw Blaise Arcas y Aguera demonstrate at TED you can just click on one of the collections which zips you down to Earth and changes the map style to Streetside (where available). Once you’re on the ground, just look up! Sweeeeeet.

The application is pulling tons of collections from the Worldwide Telescope Community including Constellations, Solar System, All-Sky Surveys, Spitzer Studies, Chandra Studies, Hubble Studies, Astrophotography, Radio Studies, NOAO Studies, Gemini Studies, Messier Catalog, Planets/Moons, Earth (Bing!), Panoramas, and Tours. Each of these selections has a deep rich collection of information within. For example, when you click “Constellations” a set of constellations will load. Select a constellation from the list and you’ll see an overview of the constellation. Select “Fly to” to load the constellation. If you’re in Streetside, just look up by grabbing the map and pull down the map to see the constellation – such as the beautiful Aries shown above.

Live@EDU service update

Wij zij verheugd dat we updates kunnen aankondigen op de Live@edu Service Management Portal (SMP), die binnenkort beschikbaar zullen zijn. Op basis van feedback van de gebruikers voeren we de volgende verbeteringen door:

• Met de navigatie-elementen in de SMP kunt u voortaan een nieuwe browsersessie openen tijdens het zoeken of lezen van ingevulde Help-onderwerpen en -antwoorden op fora, bij partners of op ondersteuningspagina’s.

• Het maximumaantal adressen op de lijsten met veilige en onveilige IP-adressen wordt verhoogd van 100 naar 500.

• Live@edu komt beschikbaar in nog eens zeven landen, waarmee het totaal op 135 landen uitkomt. Live@edu is voortaan ook beschikbaar in Oezbekistan, Kirgizië, Turkmenistan, Tadzjikistan, Mongolië, Fiji en Ethiopië.

In verband met de service-updates wordt op 23 maart 2010 gedurende maximaal twee uur onderhoud uitgevoerd aan de SMP. Hoewel de SMP tijdens het onderhoud met onderbrekingen beschikbaar blijft, raden wij u aan het gebruik van de SMP voor of na deze datum te plannen. Let op: dit onderhoud heeft geen gevolgen voor Live@edu-services zoals e-mail, opslag en samenwerking, noch voor het Windows Live Admin Center. Het onderhoud beperkt zich strikt tot de Services Management Portal.

Over een paar weken zal voor de 2de keer “het” onderwijs event worden georganiseerd door en voor onderwijinstellingen. We hebben een mooi programma met aansprekende onderwijsinstellingen die tijdens de break-out sessies weer interessante presentaties geven over het gebruik van Microsoft oplosssingen. Dit jaar zal behalve Sharepoint ook Exchange 2010, OCS, Live@edu en Office 2010 op de agenda staan.

Ik mag daar weer een sessie verzorgen over onze Live@EDU aanbod. De afgelopen dagen heb ik op de IPON gestaan en toch weten heel veel mensen niet wat het aanbod is. Als het zien….. willen ze het!

Binnenkort worden de inschrijfformulieren online gezet, maar houdt 28 april alvast vrij in je agenda.

Van het weekend is er weer een update van Bing Maps met voor Nederland een mooie toevoeging met bird’s eye ondersteuning:

Op de site van het sharepoint team is een aankondiging gedaan van de beschikbaarheid van office 2010 en sharepoint 2010:

Zoomit voor Internet Explorer en meer…

Afgelopen woensdagavond was ik op de DIWUG en zag ik een presentatie van Donald Hessing over SharePoint 2010 als contentstore voor media file. Buiten dat het een geweldig leuke presentatie was, gebruikte hij ook een handig tooltje, die ik nog niet kende.

Zoomit; hiermee kan je binnen Internet Explorer en Windows via een toetsencombinatie (standaard ctrl 1) inzoomen naar het gedeelde van je scherm waar je muis zich bevindt. Erg handig voor presentatie waar je een demo moet geven. Stel de afstand is te groot voor mensen, dan kan je toch op het relevante gedeelde inzoomen tijdens je presentatie. Na het inzoomen op Esc drukken en je gaat weer naar de normale modus.

Wat een geweldige tool! Bedankt Donald :)

Presentatie Live@EDU gebruikersgroep

Gisteren was de kick-off van de nederlandse gebruikersgroep voor Live@EDU. Er waren ongeveere 60 personen aanwezig van PO tot HBO. Het was een leuke middag met allerlei presentaties van klanten die de afgelopen tijd druk bezig zijn geweest met hun implementaties van live@EDU. De mensen konden elkaar vertellen wat er wel en niet goed gegaan is, er werd direct kennis gedeeld!

Mobiele versie van de Surface

Op de techfest 2010 deze week is er een prototype van de mobiele surface versie getoond door Microsoft Research! Het grote voordeel hiervan is dat je niet meer zo dure surfacetafel hoeft te hebben… Nu is het nog wachten op de eerste telefoon met zo’n projector :)

Live@EDU – belangrijk nieuws voor beheerders

Dit is voor u de laatste herinnering dat vanwege de migratie naar Outlook Live R4 de oudere versies van Windows PowerShell en Exchange Labs Management Agent (ELMA) - voor Identity Lifecycle Management (ILM) - niet meer zullen werken vanaf 1 maart 2010. U moet vóór die datum upgraden naar Windows PowerShell v2.0 RTW (Release to Web) en Outlook Live Management Agent (OLMA) for ILM.

Belangrijk nieuws over de upgrade naar Outlook Live R4

Beheerdersaccounts zijn begin december geüpgraded naar R4, waarna u de nieuwe versie van deze hulpprogramma's kon testen en ook nieuwe R4-postvakken kon maken. Als u werkt met het Exchange Configuratiescherm worden alle nieuwe postvakken automatisch gemaakt in R4. Als u PowerShell / OLMA gebruikt om postvakken te maken, moet u upgraden naar nieuwe versies van deze hulpprogramma's. Anders worden de postvakken gemaakt in R3. Bestaande eindgebruikersaccounts in R3 worden sinds december overgezet naar R4 en deze migratie moet voor eind maart voltooid zijn.

Hoe weet ik of de upgrade naar R4 is uitgevoerd?

Meld u aan bij Outlook Web App en bekijk het kleurenschema. Dat is blauw in R3 en geel in R4. De eerste beheerdersaccount (die wordt gemaakt bij inschrijving) wordt altijd als eerste geüpgraded. Daarna kunnen eindgebruikers hun upgrade verifiëren aan de hand van de kleurverandering naar geel in Outlook Web App. Beheerders kunnen op dit moment niet nagaan welk percentage van hun gebruikers is geüpgraded, maar de gebruikers zelf zien het gemakkelijk aan de kleurverandering.

Meld u aan bij http://outlook.com/ecp met uw beheerdersaccount. Ziet u het nieuwe tabblad Beheerdersrollen? Als dat zo is, bent u in R4!

Microsoft Research heeft een nieuw prototype uitgebracht genaamd FlashCards:

Flashcards is a Silverlight web application where you can create, share, and study online flashcards. Find a deck in the community, or create your own. Decks can have up to 300 cards, and each card can have any combination of text, image, and sound on the front and the back. Start with Review mode if you don't know the content at all. Otherwise, skip ahead to Study or Type It In modes. Study mode is based on the honor system, and Type It In checks the correct answer with what you typed in. Want a challenge? Try swapping fronts and backs then studying again.

Flashcards provides a unique experience for each learner. We keep track of how long it's been since you've seen each card, and whether or not you knew it. Then we use our memory optimization algorithm to determine which card to show you next. You'll see the cards in a different order than your friend, since the order is optimized for you. And it's all stored on the server, so if you start studying from another computer, you'll pick up where you left off. Want to learn more about how the algorithm works? Read our whitepaper (on the right).

If teachers, tutors, or parents want to track a student's progress, have the student print a report of their progress in a specific study session. If you want to see how you're doing across sessions, take a look at the timeline on the bottom of the Study screen. Cards on the left side are ones you need to study, or you haven't seen yet. Cards on the right side are the ones you know best. Watch the cards move toward the right side of the timeline as you play and learn them better. Over time, cards slowly move back to the left (since we all forget things as time goes on). If it's been a long time since you've seen a card and you get it right again, it gets bumped even further, since you haven't forgotten it.

Live@EDU onderhoud op 25 februari

Op 25 februari zal de service vanuit het Admin Center tijdelijk worden onderbroken vanwege de implementatie van een nieuwe release door Syndication Central. De onderbreking van 30 minuten zal plaatsvinden tussen 21 en 23 uur Centraal-Europese tijd. Gedurende de onderbreking hebt u geen toegang tot het Admin Center. Deze onderbreking heeft gevolgen voor het maken en verwijderen van LiveID's en postvakken vanuit het Admin Center en vanuit partnerprogramma's zoals Outlook Live's ILM MA, PowerShell en het Exchange Configuratiescherm.

Nieuwe versie Live@EDU integratie met Moodle

Microsoft Education Labs heeft weer een nieuwe versie uitgebracht voor de integratie van Live@EDU met Moodle. Voornamelijk is er in deze release gewerkt aan een snellere oplossing. Met deze add-in is het mogelijk:

- Agenda van Outlook in Moodle te laten zien

- Je eigen mailbox is geintegreerd in de omgeving

- Integratie van Messenger (wie is er online) binnen Moodle

- en nog meer

De software is geheel gratis en is beschikbaar als GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE (Opensource) en is hier te downloaden.

Microsoft Math Generator

Kost het je elke keer veel tijd om wiskunde formules te bedenken? Microsoft Education Labs heeft een (beta) tool uitgebracht waarmee je met 1 druk op de knop een Word document kan genereren met wiskunde vragen (formules).

De tool is hier gratis te downloaden.

Do you spend a lot of time searching for worksheets with practice problems to give your students? Now you can easily create your own in just a few seconds with the Math Worksheet Generator. This is a tool that generates multiple math problems based on a sample, and then creates a worksheet that you can distribute. By analyzing the math problem you provide, or one of the built-in samples, the generator determines the structure of the expression and provides similar problems. We tack on an answer sheet too.
The Math Worksheet Generator works best with Word 2007. If you have that, then the tool creates a Word document and the expressions are editable. If you have an older version of Word, we still create a document, but the expressions are small images that aren't editable. (This is because Word 2007 and higher has more built-in support for inserting Math equations.) If you don't have Word at all, the tool will create HTML versions of the worksheet and answer sheet. If you have a Mac, we didn't forget you, so stay tuned - we're working on a web version that should come out later this year.

Het heeft zeker iets met een muis te maken…

Deze applicatie is een add-on in Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 en 2010. Het biedt de mogelijkheid om vragen in PowerPoint te maken zodat leerlingen deze kunnen beantwoorden met een muis. De software ondersteunt op dit moment tot 25 muizen.

Mouse Mischief is a tool that Microsoft makes available free of charge, and that allows teachers to work with Microsoft Office PowerPoint to make interactive presentations. With Mouse Mischief, teachers can add multiple choice questions to their presentations, and large groups of students can answer the questions using mice connected to the teachers PC.

Mouse Mischief not only gives students the ability to engage, have fun, and learn in new, interactive ways, but it also provides teachers with a more affordable alternative to purchasing expensive student response systems, commonly known as clickers, by letting students use affordable wired or wireless USB mice that their school already own.

How does Mouse Mischief work?

Its simple. After Mouse Mischief is installed, the Mouse Mischief toolbar will appear as part of the PowerPoint ribbon when a new or old PowerPoint presentation is opened. This intuitive Mouse Mischief toolbar lets teachers add interactive elements such as multiple-choice question slides with a single click.

When the teacher opens a Mouse Mischief enabled presentation, students in the classroom can answer each question by clicking it with their uniquely designed mouse cursor. Once the students have selected their answers, the teacher can display the correct answer.

The best part? Mouse Mischief gives teachers the option to have their students answer questions individually or as part of a team, in order to encourage both competition and collaboration in the classroom.

How does the teacher stay in control?

Special teacher controls allow the teacher to disable students mouse cursors, navigate between slides, set timers, and more. With Mouse Mischief the teacher is always in control, whether there are two or 25 cursors on the screen.
